My Own Two Feet

Thanks to a recent trade with my buddy Paul, I have finally completed my Extortion discography collection. Of course, I don't have every variant, my wallet can't afford to take it. I might buy another variant of some record here and there, if the price is right, but I don't really see the point. Beside's that, here was the last piece I needed, the 7" repress of their demo. Black vinyl, 45 RPM.

Definitely not my favorite stuff from the band. I definitely don't see myself pulling this out very often, but it is mandatory for anyone who's hungry for their records, like I am. Super aggressive, pissed off, fast hardcore, just like we know and love from Extortion. Except that the recording on this is raw and lo-fi as balls.

Very simple, bare bones, and crude packagine. Basically just a printed image on some regular printer paper that was then folded. Hey, what ever does the job. Love the artwork on this too.

Now, apparently there is a recently released live bootleg LP that was just released, which I should be getting soon. I really don't like live records, but fuck all, I got to stay complete. For better or for worse :p Bring on the splits with ANb, Hatred Surge and Sidetracked!!

Coma

Big ups to the dude from RSR for actually commenting on this blog and telling me that they still had copies of the Extortion - "Get Fucked" 5" for sale. Silly me, I had thought that they sold out a loooooong time ago. But low and behold, I made the order and a couple weeks later, I get this seeminly-illusive little record.

Two tracks on here, both are outtakes from the "Sick" recording session. One regular, fast Extortion song, and a slow moving instrumental. I probably won't listen to this very much, the songs aren't the best, but it's a vital part to my Extortion collection. Very happy to have it.

Pretty cool art, particularly in the center labels. The cover art is just "meh".

I'll be getting the demo soon, then I'm complete!

Cut In Half

Fuck yes, the Extortion/Cold World split 12" is mine! I'm super fucking excited about this, because not only is it new Extortion, but this is the first record of there's that I pre-ordered directly from the band. and everything went great! It arrived a lot quicker than I had anticipated, and in great condition, except for some small tears on the top of the sleeve from it being shipped with the record inside. The band was selling the white vinyl variant, limited to 100, 45 RPM.

I'm very pleased to say that this is an excellent split. I was not impressed with their last two, and I can't really remember a whole lot about the "Loose Screws" 10", so I was really hoping this thing would kick ass. 11 rippers from Extortion, that waste no time and keep things fast and visceral. It really reminds me of their "Degenerate" era. Particularly in the vocals, Rohan hasn't sounded this intense in a while. Cold World is pretty great too. This is the first time I'm hearing them and they're a good pairing for Extortion. Fast fast hardcore, not very original, but definitely entertaining.

Pretty interesting artwork from Rohan this time around. Still trying to put my finger on the concept of this one. It's kinda Blade Runner/Terminator-y.

Two sided, glossy insert with lyrics from both bands.

Extortion are all sold out of white, and RSR is probably all out of their red variant, but I'm not positive. These will be in tons of distros soon!

Terminal Cancer

Not a few days after I posted my Extortion collection, my friend Matt hooked me up with a vital piece that I was missing (more on Matt and his band in the next post). He sent me the Extortion - "Terminal Cancer in a trade. Black vinyl, 33 RPM.

This is an interesting release for Extortion, mainly due to the fact that it's got a really rough recording. This thing was recorded on a crude little 8-track and it sounds, as the band describes it, "raw as piss". I really dig this release because of that. Fans of Extortion's other records might be shocked at how rough this one sounds compared to the rest of their catalog, but the songs are still there and they're tight and visceral as always.

Cool cover art.

Anybody know what the deal is with this yak?

Really cool EP, somebody sell me their demo and the "Get Fucked" 5"!!

My Extortion Collection

Yeah, it's pretty small compared to my other hardcore vinyl blogger colleges. But you know me, I don't go after every variant. I'm obviously still missing the Demo 7", the "Get Fucked" 5", and the "Terminal Cancer" 7". Hopefully I'll get those soon!

Out Of Your Mind

I got this a while ago, and I finally got around to spinning yesterday. This particular records is a split from Extortion that has always seemed to avoid me. Thankfully, RSR was kind enough to reissue it for people like me. Joy. Here's the Extortion/Jed Whitey split 7", black vinyl, 45 RPM.

I really like the Extortion side of this. Go figure, right? Very fast stuff from them, and it's over in the blink of an eye. 5 songs in what seems like less than 3 minutes. Including a cover of the Black Flag song - "Fix Me".

Jed Whitey did nothing for me, unfortunately. Old-school sounding hardcore punk rock that sounds almost like bubble gum, sugary pop compared to Extortion. It's a curious pairing, and I'm not fond of it. Come to think of it, the only band Extortion has shared a split with that I think is great is Agents of Abhorrence. Hopefully the upcoming splits will have good material from both bands featured.

Pretty standard packaging, noting fancy at all. Double-sided sleeve with a pretty uninteresting looking inside. Why is there only a picture of there drummer?

You can pick this up in tons of distros now. I got mine from Rotten To The Core records.

Control

I added three new additions to the Extortion collection recently, which I'm very happy about. Most of them were re-issues, but that's fine with me. Here is the Extortion - "Control" 7", re-issuse on Deep Six Records, black vinyl, 45 RPM.
As I stated in my previous post, all the records I received this week I haven't actually spun because I'm away from my turntable. I have, however, listened to this EP and it's damn good. Short, powerful songs that rip and roar with powerfully violent velocity. Rohans vocals are devastating as well.
Excellent artwork as well, as always. Definitely not my favorite piece from Rohan, but I am in love with the colour scheme. The red and white just pop out so vibrantly. Definitely a solid cover design.
Very good looking center labels too. The deep red is a nice touch.
I haven't seen this re-issue pop up in a lot of distros, but I bought mine from Rotten To The Core records. Go for it, I'm sure Deep Six still has some as well.

I Need More Agents of Abhorrence Records!!!!!!

Sorry for the lack of vinyl posts lately, I've been away from my camera. There will definitely be a post or two today. But aside from that, I come to you today asking if ANY of you know where I can get my hands on some Agents of Abhorrence records. I've been digging this band like crazy the past few weeks, and I really really really need more of their releases. I only have their split with Extortion, which is fucking awesome, but I would love to snag their Iron Lungs split, or their 9", or anything! Help me out my Australian brothers!!

Extortion/Cold World Split Artwork

I mean, yeah, just look at it. Very different looking image for Extortion. It's a little more...I'll say subtle. But I still really dig it. And news of any new Extortion record gets me gittier than a school girl. Sean from Skullfucked should be stoked.

Drown

Another piece from my modest Extortion collection, and my 2nd favorite thing I own by them. The Extortion/Agents of Abhorrence split 7", first press, transparent blue vinyl, 45 RPM.

Great split that I just revisited while taking pictures for this post. I had forgotten how incredibly awesome Agents of Abhorrence are. Like, they're really super great! I want everything by this band, they play grind just how I like it(Discordance-Lung-Iron-Axis grind). The Extortion side is awesome too, the songs are generally way faster than usual. The drums are all over the place. This was also reissued by Deep Six recently, pick it up!!

My absolute favorite Extortion artwork so far. I love the coloring and just the stark bleakness of this image. Incredible detail too, just an all around masterpiece.

Listen to Agents of Abhorrence!

Sick

I think every modern hardcore fan should have at least 1 Extortion record in their collection. My collection is modest at best, if only because people sell their OOP records for hefty sums of cash. Yeah, Extortion are one of those bands that have a large following of people who try to buy everything they've ever put out, thus Extortion have a lot of different varients and editions of their releases. Deep Six recently reissued a bunch of their records, which I should be getting in the near future. This record here has to be my favorite of their stuff that I've heard; "Sick" 12", black vinyl, 45 RPM, not sure which pressing this is.

Fantastic record! A good balance of old-school influence from great bands like Infest and Lack of Interest with some some new-school twists and turns. They manage to throw in enough interesting riffs and concepts into their music to save them from being a complete rehash band. Love it.

As always, brilliant art from lead singer Rohan. His artwork is one of my favorite things about Extortion,  it's very Raymond Pettibon-ish. Like how you can instantly recognize one of his pieces on a Black Flag record, Rohans art is that kinda reconizable. This cover art here is one of my favorites of his, but falling into 2nd place behind the Extortion/Agents of Abhorrence split.

Double-sided insert

Boring old black vinyl. Deep Six reissued this recently, so it's pretty easy to find now. If you want to see some REAL Extortion praise, head on over to one of my favorite blogs everrr SKULLFUCKED. There's a link on the right hand side of my page, check him out, his blog is way better than mine :)
